Warplanes carried out heavy airstrikes this evening around sunset inside the town of Aadan Yabaal in the Middle Shabelle region. Among the main targets were the well-known Villa Aadan Yabaal residence and several other locations across the town.
According to local sources, members of Al-Shabaab were present at the targeted sites at the time of the strikes. Powerful explosions were heard, shaking large parts of the town.
Preliminary reports indicate that the airstrikes specifically targeted facilities and buildings suspected of being used by the group for meetings and military coordination.
However, the extent of the casualties and damage has not yet been officially confirmed.
Local sources also said the strikes occurred in successive waves, hitting multiple locations throughout the town, while the security situation remains tense.
So far, neither the Federal Government of Somalia nor the military command has issued an official statement providing details about the operation. Al-Shabaab has also not commented on tonight’s airstrikes in Aadan Yabaal.
