Cisleey Airfield is set to become Egypt’s main base and a Somali National Army (SNA) training centre.
Egyptian officers arrived Monday, 28 September 2026, at the former airfield in Ceelcade, near Mogadishu, a day after an SNA unit deployed there.
Plans call for a major SNA training base, expected to host Egypt’s largest troop contribution to the upcoming African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
The deployment deepens Cairo-Mogadishu defence ties and security coordination amid regional tensions over Ethiopia’s maritime agreements with #Somaliland and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
