Federal Government of Somalia Imposes Sanctions on Laftagareen, Commander Shub, and 8 Others

The Federal Government of Somalia has imposed financial sanctions on 10 individuals accused of involvement in financing and supporting Al-Shabaab.

This decision was announced in a press release from the National Committee for Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism, stating that these individuals have been added to the National Financial Sanctions List.

The individuals added to the list include Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed (known as Laftagareen), Mahad Abdirahman Adan (known as Shub), Hassan Abdi Mohamed (known as Ugaas Hassan), and Ibrahim Adan Ali Najah.

The list also includes Hassan Abdulkadir Mohamed, Abdullahi Ali Watiin, Abdifitah Mahad Abdirahman, Abdimajid Mowliid Hassan, Amin, and Abshir Adan Isaaq.

The committee stated that this decision is part of efforts to strengthen the fight against terrorist financing.

The committee also warned citizens and institutions to comply with the government’s decision and noted that no dealings or contact may be established with these individuals. The government’s decision comes at a time when forces loyal to Laftagareen have been launching attacks on the city of Baidoa in the Bay region over the past few days.
