The Government of Serbia is currently training Somalia’s elite special forces in the operation of advanced military hardware, including M-84 AC3 main battle tanks and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), according to sources familiar with the arrangement.
Somalia is expected to receive 17 M-84 AC3 tanks along with drone systems, maintenance equipment, spare parts, weapons, and ammunition. Officials close to the matter say the Somali government has purchased part of the military package, while the remaining portion has been provided through a credit arrangement.
The training program has reportedly been ongoing for the past three and a half years, with Serbia overseeing the preparation of Somalia’s presidential guard special forces unit. Hundreds of soldiers assigned to the President’s protection detail have graduated from the program during this period.
The move marks a significant step in strengthening Somalia’s military capabilities as the country continues efforts to modernize its armed forces and enhance national security operations.
