Iran has warned that its “enemies” may be planning to occupy Kharg Island, a key oil export hub. A senior Iranian official said any such move—especially with help from a regional country—would trigger direct attacks on that country’s critical infrastructure.
Iran’s parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, stressed that Iranian forces are closely monitoring developments and would respond with continuous and targeted strikes if an invasion attempt occurs.
At the same time, the United States, under President Donald Trump, claims it is pursuing negotiations to end the conflict, though Iran denies any talks are happening. Meanwhile, Washington has issued strong warnings, saying Iran must accept defeat or face severe military consequences.
The U.S. is also increasing its military presence in the region, deploying thousands of troops, including units from the 82nd Airborne Division, and sending Marine forces aboard amphibious ships.
Reports suggest Kharg Island may be a potential U.S. target, and some analysts believe the warning from Iran may be directed at the United Arab Emirates, which could be accused of supporting such an operation.
Iran has further warned it could expand the conflict, including threatening the strategic Bab al-Mandeb Strait near the Red Sea, possibly with involvement from allied groups like Yemen’s Houthis.
Despite public threats, there are signs of quiet diplomatic efforts, with both sides reportedly proposing plans to end the conflict.
