Brigadier General Sahal Abdullahi Omar, Commander of the Somali National Army Ground Forces, represented Somalia at the African Land Forces Summit 2026 in Rome.
The summit, organized by the United States, brought together African military leaders and international partners to strengthen security cooperation and joint capabilities.
At the event, General Sahal emphasized the growing importance of drone technology in modern warfare, noting its key role in enhancing Somalia’s counter-terrorism operations against militant groups.
He also called for stronger coordination, improved intelligence sharing, and continued modernization of troop training and capabilities through international partnerships.
The commander reaffirmed the Somali government’s commitment to protecting civilians, stressing that all military operations must comply with national laws and international humanitarian standards.
