Bari region elders urge Puntland, DP World to end Bosaso port dispute

Traditional elders in Somalia’s Bari region have urged Puntland authorities and DP World to resolve a dispute over fees at Bosaso Port, warning that ongoing disruptions are harming trade and the local economy.

The elders called for the immediate suspension of new port charges, reopening the port to restore normal business activity, the creation of a dialogue committee, and a review of port-related agreements to protect public interests.

The dispute has disrupted business at Bosaso Port for a second week after traders rejected increased fees. Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni denied that new taxes were imposed, saying the changes involve revised service fees for foreign ships and are aimed at supporting infrastructure development.

Business leaders and community groups have expressed concern that the continued disruption could increase prices, affect supplies, and threaten livelihoods across Puntland.
