Turkey’s Parliament has approved a two-year extension of the Turkish military mission in Somalia.
Under the new mandate, Turkish forces will continue operating in Somalia until July 27, 2028, supporting efforts to enhance the country’s security and stability.
According to the resolution, the mission will focus on combating terrorism, piracy, illegal fishing, human trafficking, and other security threats.
The resolution also grants Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan the authority to determine the number of troops, their deployment locations, and the scope of the mission, based on cooperation between the two governments.
Turkey has been a key partner to Somalia in areas including security, military training, coastal protection, and economic cooperation. The new decision comes as the two countries continue to strengthen their strategic partnership.
