Somaliland President Appeals for Urgent Aid as Drought Affects Over 100,000 People

Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Irro has issued an urgent appeal for humanitarian assistance as a severe drought affects over 100,000 people across the region. Speaking in Hargeisa, he called on citizens, businesses, and international partners to support relief efforts amid growing food insecurity and displacement.

The drought, impacting eastern and southern parts of Somaliland, has worsened water shortages and caused failed harvests, threatening livelihoods and livestock. President Irro pledged his administration’s commitment to aid coordination but warned that immediate local and global action is needed to prevent further suffering. Aid agencies have echoed concerns over the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation.
