Ethiopian Federal Forces Capture a Key City in the Tigray Region

Ethiopian federal forces have captured the city of Alamata in southern Tigray, approximately 120 kilometers from Mekelle, the capital of the Tigray Region, according to various sources that shared the information with the media.

Alamata is an important city, and the continued presence of federal forces there could allow them to establish a stronger foothold in the Tigray Region in northern Ethiopia, according to military experts.

The city could serve as a key base for supplies and facilitate the deployment of reinforcements to federal forces, potentially enabling them to launch another offensive toward Mekelle, the capital of the Tigray Region, which recently came under the control of TPLF forces.

The conflict-monitoring organization ACLED stated that federal forces are currently in control of Alamata and added that the city is of particular strategic importance to them.

The conflict in Ethiopia, which had been paused following agreements between the parties involved in political and administrative disputes, resumed late last week, with fighting erupting again on a large scale.
