U.S. media outlet NBC News reported that eight U.S. Marines were injured after an Iranian missile struck a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz on September 14.
Citing three U.S. officials, NBC reported that the service members were exposed to smoke and experienced symptoms of traumatic brain injury, but none suffered serious injuries, and all have since returned to duty.
The vessel that was attacked was not a U.S. warship. Seven of the service members were enlisted personnel, while one was an officer.
The names of the eight service members were added to the U.S. Department of Defense’s casualty records nearly 10 days after the attack.
