The Kenyan government has announced that the first case of Ebola has been detected in the city of Nairobi, according to Kenya’s Health Minister, Aden Duale.
The minister said the virus was detected in a person who had recently travelled from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
The case is raising particular concern among people who frequently travel between Kenya and other countries in the region, especially Somalis, who have strong commercial and social ties with Nairobi.
Nairobi receives dozens of flights every day from Somalia and other countries, highlighting the importance of strengthening health measures and screening for travellers.
